Components
The basic 8 day programme is 105 hours long and consists of three modules . In line with the new QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework, see www.qcda.gov.uk ) to be introduced in 2010, this course would represent an achievement at Award Level. There is usually four weeks between modules in order to ensure opportunity for practice.
The course comprises various components including;
- Eight taught days (8 x 7 = 56 hours delivery)
- Self study component (20 hours)
- Trainee Manual to include information about mediation process, principles, values, skills and legal knowledge
- Pre, mid and post course tripartite contact between trainee, trainer and practice consultant (4 hours)
- Directed reading before and after modules (10 hours)
- 5 hours practice consultancy for this work
Advanced Skills
This consists of one 3 day module, with further written work which starts the completion of a portfolio evidencing practice. Completion of this advance module, following on from the basic 8 day programme would represent an achievement at Certificate Award Level under the QCF guidelines
The course comprises various components including
- Three taught days (3x7 = 21 hours delivery)
- A supervised session led by a Recognised PPC which marks an official start to the Portfolio building process, as required by the College of Mediators*
- Post course writing which will contribute to the portfolio including case work and sample units
- In circumstances where delegates do not have their own College recognised PPC, Key Mediation will be able to provide further supervisory support to enable delegates to meet College requirements and complete their portfolio. This work would be at extra cost.
